Hello! ππΌ Matt here.
Lexicle was born out of an attempt to combine my favorite daily word puzzles β Wordle, Semantle, and Connections β and ended up becoming its own satisfying thing along the way, as I figured out how hard (but rewarding) it really is to hone semantic relationships between words.
Tied to that semantic backbone, Lexicle is also home to a growing collection of word nerdery, trivia, and the occasional riddle post over on the blog.
How Lexicle works under the hood
Every puzzle draws from a database I’ve honed over the past year. It started with Python’s sentence-transformer model – ranking every five-letter word to every other five-letter word by semantic similarity. From there it’s a mix of AI-assisted cleanup and a lot of manual review to make sure the relations feel right. I wrote a full breakdown over on the blog.
The first Lexicle launched on April 1st, 2025, and new puzzles drop every day at 8am CST. The growing archive of past games is free to play, and every now and then there’s a Quest β a 10-puzzle journey through a single theme. Oh, and a leaderboard for the most competitive among us!
A bit more about me
I’m a self-taught developer (15 years in now), but my background is in piano performance and composition. Thanks to Lexicle’s ad partner and YouTube, I’m lucky to get to work full-time on my own projects now. My word game obsession started young as my family played Boggle around the kitchen table every night growing up, and my first successful web app was Wordshake (sold in 2024).
It’s the players who reach out that have made Lexicle what it is: couples who solve it together over coffee, families using it to stay connected across distances, the Quest-lovers. That’s what keeps it going. If you spot a puzzle where the relations feel off, or you notice a word that should be in the database but isn’t, please tell me. Every email gets read. I genuinely care about getting the words right.
