What is Lexicle?

Lexicle is a daily word puzzle game where you guess the mystery word based on its meaning — like Wordle meets "hot or cold".
It challenges your semantic understanding of words.

How do you play Lexicle?

Guess the mystery word in 11 tries!

Type a 5-letter word in the letter boxes (just like Wordle), and you'll see how close your guess is — hot or cold — based on meaning.
You get a warm word to start, and one after every guess to keep you on track.

After 6 guesses, you'll get the first letter. After 8 you'll get the second. And to help you keep your streak... you get the 3rd letter at the 11th and very last guess. Points are equal to how many of your 11 guesses are left. Maximum score is 10/10.

The temperature scale is based purely on word meaning — not spelling or shared letters.

How exactly did you create the word relationships?

I wrote a full blog post here about the process. In short, I used Python's sentence-transformer model for the bulk of the work, and fine-tuned with an AI endpoint, and a lot of manual review.

Do I need an account to play?

Nope, your progress is saved locally in your browser. If you want to save your progress across browsers and devices, you can create a free account with any Google/Gmail address.

Will my stats sync across devices?

Only if you're logged in. Otherwise, stats are tied to your browser.

What inspired Lexicle?

Lexicle is inspired by games like Wordle, Contexto, and Connections - along with the classic "hot or cold" word-guessing game.

As a longtime NYT Games player, I've also created the Daily Connections Hint and Daily Strands Hint to help you keep your streak.
